The Spirit of the Natural man is not only darkened, his “Will” stands as a guard at the door, and prevents the entrance of the Holy Spirit, and it is not until the “Will” surrenders through the power of the Sword of the Spirit, the Word of God, that the Holy Spirit can enter and take up his abode in the “Spirit” of man. (John 3:16; 10:9-10; 17:3; Rom. 3:23; 6:23; 10:9-10, 13-14; II Cor. 5:17, 21).
God breathed the breath of life (His spirit) into human beings. For example, Adam and Eve knew God. They had an intimate relationship with Him. They talked with God in the cool of the day. They were aware of God's instructions, but after listening to Satan, they reasoned within themselves. Then, they chose to obey self-will (the gateway to the spirit) rather than to obey God's will (which led to the fall of man).
Now, human beings became more self-conscience than God conscience. Their thinking and their affections had become distorted (against their original nature). Moreover, I had been in church for all of my life, but it was not until I had "A Light Bulb Moment" that I can truly say that I experienced God! I had been taught about Him; I had a head knowledge of Him, but it was not until that moment, that I could sense His presence. I knew that He could literally see me! It was an awareness like never before! A fear of God came upon me! Not a fear that God was going to get me, but a fear that God would be displeased with what he saw me doing. So, I then was presented with a dilemma, I could continue doing things the world's way (as I had been) or I could choose differently___God's way of doing things.
According to Romans 1:18, God created all of humanity with something on the inside of them to know the truth (the difference between right and wrong). However, humanity prefer the will of the flesh, rather than the desire of the one that created them. I knew that sex before marriage was wrong, and after this encounter, I wanted to stop, but no matter how hard I tried ___ I could not! Nonetheless, by me knowing the truth, that God is real (for real) and spending time with God, it empowered me to change my response in everyday situations. I now had the power to say NO! No to sin! Simply by me enjoying my love relationship with God, I have changed more by accident than I have on purpose. The bottom line, mankind does not have the power to change themselves apart from God! It is God that is doing a work in and through them; He cleanses us from all sin (Titus 2:14). And since this awareness, I have lived life with such an exuberance!
